What is Cervical Cancer?
The female reproductive system comprise 2 ovaries, 2 fallopian tubes, the uterus (womb) that is attached to the cervix and vagina. The cervix is also called neck of the womb.
Cervical cancer is caused by the abnormal growth of cells that have the ability to invade or spread to other parts of the body. Human papillomavirus infection (HPV) causes more than 90% of the cases.
Most people who had HPV infections, however, do not develop cervical cancer. HPV 16 and 18 strains are responsible for nearly 50% of high grade cervical pre-cancers.
Cervical cancer is the 10th most common cancer among women in Singapore. It is fortunately a highly preventable cancer because reliable early diagnosis is able to detect pre-cancerous stage. All women between 25 – 69 years old who ever had sexual activity are encouraged to go for cervical smear tests as part of Singapore’s national screening program.
Risk Factors of Cervical Cancer in Singapore
HPV infection is very common. Fortunately, human’s immune system is adaptable to remove the infection just like how it can remove the common cold virus. These are several risk factors that may cause HPV to stay longer in the body or develop into cervical cancer:
- Cigarette smoking
- Sexual activities at early age
- Previous HPV infection or exposure
- Having multiple sexual partners
- A history of sexually transmitted infection
HPV vaccines protect against 2-7 high risk strains of this family of viruses and may prevent up to 90% of cervical cancers. To mitigate the risk, guidelines recommend pap tests.
Institutions in Singapore such as Singapore Cancer Society provide free cervical cancer screening. Worldwide, cervical cancer is both the 4th most common type and 4th most common cause of mortality in women with cancer. In 2012, worldwide, there was an estimated 528,000 cases of cervical cancer, with 266,000 mortality cases.
Signs & Symptoms of Cervical Cancer
Invasive cervical cancer might not have symptoms until late stages. Some symptoms of cervical cancer might include:
- Lower abdominal pain or pain during sexual intercourse
- Vaginal bleeding after intercourse
- Irregular vaginal bleeding between periods or after menopause
- Watery, bloody or repugnant smelling vaginal discharge
- Loss of appetite
Diagnosis
While the Pap test can be used as a screening test, it can produce a false negative in up to 50% of cervical cancer cases. Confirmation of cervical cancer in diagnosis requires a biopsy of the cervix. Usually, colposcopy procedure is used, which is a magnified visual inspection of the cervix aided by a dilute acetic acid solution to highlight abnormal cells on cervix’ surface, with visual contrast between normal tissues and abnormal cells.
Often before recommending biopsy, the doctor might ask patients to do medical imaging to rule out other causes of symptoms. Imaging modalities such as ultrasound, CT scan, and MRI have been used to detect other diseases, spread of the tumor, and effect on adjacent structures.
Music and viewing the procedure on a monitor can reduce anxiety associated with the examination.
TXL Phytoceutical’s Research in Cervical Cancer Treatment
TXL Phytoceutical has been used since 1991 to assist cancer patients. Today, the effectiveness of TXL towards cancer cells has been published in 26 research articles, including 2 clinical trials (one towards breast cancer in National Taiwan University Hospital and the other towards Nasopharyngeal cancer in Dharmais Cancer Hospital Indonesia). TXL has also made it to the drug dictionary of the US National Cancer Institute with code name THL-P.
In 2005, the research by Sun et al. regarding TXL’s ability to inhibit cell growth and induce apoptosis in various human cancer cells was published in the Journal of Alternative & Complementary Medicine. The result of the research shows that TXL (Taiwan pronounciation THL) could induce apoptosis in all human cancer cell lines tested but not in normal human cells. This demonstrates TXL’s ability to selectively only target human cancer cell lines without harming normal healthy cells.
1. TXL Helps to Inhibit Cancer Cell Growth
Figure 1: A. Dose-dependent effect of TXL on C-33A (Human Cervical Carcinoma cell lines). Cells were cultured in media containing various concentration of TXL for 24 hours.
B. Time-dependent growth-inhibitory effect of TXL on various human cancer cell lines, including C-33A (Human Cervical Carcinoma cell lines). Cells were cultured in media in the absence or presence of 1% (v/v) TXL for 6, 12, 18, 24, 30, and 72 hours.
TXL (THL in Taiwan pronounciation) showed a strong and dose-dependent inhibitory effect on the growth of both Human Cervical Carcinoma cell lines and Human Lung Carcinoma cell lines. The concentration required for 50% inhibition of growth of C-33A and H1299 cells (ID50) was 0.13% (v/v) and 0.45% (v/v), respectively. At a concentration of 0.5% (v/v) and 1% (v/v), respectively, all of the Cervical Carcinoma cells and Lung Carcinoma cells were killed. In contrast, PBMC (normal cells) was only marginally inhibited by 2% (v/v) THL and more than 40% of normal cells survived after 10% (v/v) THL treatment.
When Cervical Carcinoma cells, Lung Carcinoma cells and human hepatocellular carcinoma HepG2, and normal cells were incubated with 1% (v/v) THL for various lengths of time, all three cancer cell lines were killed by THL in a time-dependent manner (Fig. 1B).
The above data suggest that THL could specifically help to kill human cancer cells but not normal human cells at low concentration. This means that TXL has the ability to selectively only target cancer cells without harming normal healthy cells.
2. TXL Helps to Induce Apoptosis (Programmed Cell Death) in Human Cancer Cells, Including the Cervical Carcinoma C-33A Cells
Figure 2: DNA fragmentation assay of various human cancer cells (C-33A for Cervical Carcinoma cell lines, HuH-7 for Hepatocellular Carcinoma cell lines, NPC-TW04 for Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma cell lines) and normal human cell lines (HUVEC) untreated or treated with 1% (v/v) TXL. ‘-‘ for untreated cells ‘+’ for TXL-treated cells.
As evident by the formation of internucleosomal DNA fragments, treatment with 1% (v/v) TXL induced apoptosis in cervical, hepatocellular, nasopharyngeal carcinoma cells, but TXL doesn’t harm HUVEC normal human cell lines.
This selectivity of only causing apoptosis (programmed cell death) in human cancer cells without impacting normal healthy cells has a great therapeutic importance and makes TXL a potential cancer therapeutic agent. The research also mentions that TXL has been used by numerous cancer patients for a lot of years with no known adverse effect.

1. Against Cancer With Beauty & Wisdom, I’m Healthier Now, Thank you, Cancer
Miss Edith Shih, Founder of Chinese International Rehabilitation Association, born in 1952 Taiwan
Getting cancer is like a drain full of sludge. Sludge must be cleaned and then the drain needs to be filled with clean water.
Not born with healthy body
Since I was born, I had a weak body who easily got sick and allergy. My immune system was poor and I would faint if I stood for too long at school field ceremony. I didn’t give a lot of concern when I was first diagnosed with cervical cancer in 1998. The doctor in the US suggested me to remove the entire uterus because of my age and that I did not plan to get pregnant again.
After the surgery, I thought now problem is solved and I didn’t have to adjust or improving my health. Next year, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. This time, from the doctor’s pitiful eyes, now I realized that I need to be more aware about cancer.
Refused to take Chemotherapy
When I was in the US, the doctor suggested either full or partial breast surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. I decided for partial surgery, and radiotherapy, but no chemo. The reason was because I had visited places where patients took chemotherapy and they looked painful.
During the radiotherapy sessions, I kept living an active lifestyle. I would wake up at 7 in the morning and took a walk in the neighborhood. I usually don’t exercise, but this time I do. Maybe because I kept walking, exercising, taking a hot bath, that my body felt stronger. I noticed at about the third week, some patients in the hospital came on a wheelchair and even the young ones were pushed on a sickbed. Until the last week of radiotherapy, I still drove myself to the hospital.
Paying attention to my health now
Of course, decades of my past unhealthy habits gave me accumulated consequences, and now I work to improve my health. I eat more vegetables, tofu, cereals, nuts everyday and live a simple life. I don’t have to live in the mountain, I believe I can still live a healthy lifestyle in my current environment.
2. Miracle in Cancer Case
Yu-Pao Lee, from Kinmen, Taiwan
My achievement is not only in overcoming cancer. But I’m also the number 8 cervical cancer patient who gave birth.
I’m a down to earth Kinmen woman who first got cervical and then breast cancer in 1995. I chose TXL as nutritional supplement and overcame breast cancer. In the beginning of 1995, I found my whole body skin was not smooth and I was diagnosed with cervical cancer after taking a pap test. I chose to take a surgery but keeping my ability to give birth thanks to the meticulousness of my doctor. 2 years after the surgery, I joyfully had my baby boy.
Unfortunately, 5 years later, breast cancer came back again. I had a unique story of how I became aware of the breast cancer. I went to a temple to worship Buddha. A monk in the temple told me to pay more attention to my health. In another temple, a qigong master told me that there’s an energy blockage around my armpit. So I went to a hospital for examination and indeed I was diagnosed with 3rd stage breast cancer.
In April of 2001, after 8 hours surgery of removing lymph, I wasn’t able to lift heavy things because the surgery weakened my arm. I started to do proper exercise and eat a better diet (refraining from red meat, liquor and fried food). I still had the schedule for chemotherapy and radiotherapy. That period of time happened to be the darkest and most difficult time of my life. One day, my brother in law found a book introducing TXL in a book store.
Even though both of us doubt whether drinking TXL will do me any good, I decided to start drinking it. About 2 weeks later, my loss of hair decreased and my strength increased. What surprised me is that my leucocyte count increased from 2,000 to 3,000 and gradually increased to a normal person amount when I went back to the hospital for examination. Cancer might happen because of destiny, I believe being optimistic and confident are the best state to manage cancer.
After healing, my spirit becomes better and my hair grows back due to the obvious efficacy of TXL, so I kept drinking it.
What I did during my cancer journey:
Diet
- Drink TXL everyday to increase immunity
- Drink a cup of mixed apple juice & lemonade
- Have a mix of soybean, red bean, and black bean without sugar
Exercise
- Exercise with your hands and feet for 30 minutes everyday
- Sit quietly and count your breaths as therapy for half an hour
3. Getting Over Cancer & Back to Nature
Chew Ah Siang, 66 years old from Melaka, Malaysia
I am passionate about life and live happily everyday. I have a special treasure, my hula hoop, which has accompanied me for more than a decade.
Confronting Cancer Calmly
We are staunch Catholics, so all the children who had been working out of town came back to celebrate Christmas in 2008. On that fateful day, my observant daughter observed that I had been walking with my back awkwardly bending forward. The next day she brought me to the nearest gynecologist. I went to get my results a few days later and the doctor told me I probably had cancer. I was worried but not unduly alarmed.
At that time my son Alan, who was working in Kuala Lumpur, knew a friend who was working in Tombo Enterprise, a company engaged in anti-neoplastic medicine called TXL. Alan enquired about TXL from his friend and became hopeful that the product might be able to help me. I started drinking TXL on January 2nd 2009. Throughtout that period my children took me to Kuala Lumpur and Melaka to see numerous doctors. I was even brought to Singapore for a check-up during Chinese New Year of 2009.
Regaining Health with Help of TXL and a Good Doctor
One of my daughters suggested going to the University Hospital for therapy. Though reluctant to do any more medical check-ups since the procedure was very uncomfortable, I followed her to the hospital anyway. The surgery took place on February 26th 2009, whereby my womb, uterus and the peripheral lymphatic system were surgically removed, leaving me with a colostomy bag. The surgery was a success, so much that I could walk after only 3 days and I recovered very quickly.
3 months later, I started my chemotherapy. Thanks to TXL, I began to recover more quickly in between each session. Even my hair started to grow back.
The Shadow of Chemotherapy’s Side Effects
I grew tired and weary of chemotherapy. In order to avoid another chemotherapy and a relapse, I continued taking TXL, which helped me regain my strength so quickly that I can play with my hula hoop again. A lot of close friends recommended numerous health food supplements but I stick with TXL because it was very effective, so effective that I could almost feel my blood circulation after drinking it.
I had a hard labor life before I had cancer. I had to work on my farm before daybreak. Picking and selling vegetables require accurate timing. I couldn’t afford to have a day off. Now I have to slow down and free myself of unnecessary stress. I believe that good health originates from tranquility and a stress-free life. Praise the Lord for allowing me to see bliss around me when I was down with cancer! I like to stay with my husband in the countryside. I have never liked the life in a big city because of the pollution and it’s simply a concrete jungle there.
There are big open spaces in my hometown, with fresh air, sunshine and gentle breezes. They fascinate me.
4. I Stopped Doing Chemotherapy in Singapore Because I Can’t Stand its Side Effects
Sari, 52 years old from Surabaya
This picture is only an illustration.
Since I was diagnosed with cervical cancer in 2021, I tried looking for the best treatment. I went to Q-Life Clinic in Surabaya to consult with Dr. Sri. Aside from drinking TXL Super, I also go to a hospital in Singapore to do treatments. Because I can’t stand the side effects of the chemo, I decided to stop the therapy, and only drink TXL and live a healthy lifestyle.
11 months later I went to the hospital in Singapore for check up. Praise the Lord, the result shows that I remain cancer-free. To avoid recurrence in later days, I keep on drinking TXL.
