What is Colorectal Cancer?
Colorectal cancer refers to cancer that grows in the colon & rectum (large intestine), which are the last part of the gastrointestinal system. When food enters the colon, it absorbs water and bacteria converts food residue into waste (faeces). Signs and symptoms of this type of cancer may include:
- Blood in the stool
- Change in bowel movements
- Weight loss
- Fatigue
Colorectal cancer can be diagnosed by a sample of colon cells obtained by sigmoidoscopy or colonoscopy. Medical imaging method/scanning is then employed to determine whether there is any spreading of the cancer cells. Treatments commonly used to treat colorectal cancer include some combination of surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy and targeted therapy.
Cancers that are still confined within the wall of the colon may still be managed by surgery, while cancer that has spread widely might not have a high survival rate, where treatments are directed towards improving quality of life and symptoms.
Risk Factors of Colorectal Cancer in Singapore
- Age: Men & Women age 50 years old and above have increased risk towards this cancer
- Ethnicity: the Chinese ethnic has higher risk of developing this kind of cancer
- Personal history: Individuals who were previously diagnosed with colorectal polyps or cancer are in the higher risk of developing recurrence
- Family history: Individuals who inherit a rare disease known as familial polyposis may experience a higher risk of polyps developing at a young age
- Ulcerative Colitis: This is a disease that affects bowel, in the long term will lead to inflammation and cancerous process. People with this condition has a high risk of developing colorectal cancer
TXL Phytoceutical’s Research on Colorectal Cancer
TXL has been used in international market for cancer patients since 1991. Today, the research of TXL has produced 26 research articles that are published in international journal, including 2 clinical trials (one for Breast Cancer in Taiwan National Hospital and the other for Nasopharyngeal Cancer in Dharmais Cancer Hospital Jakarta). TXL has also made it to the dictionary of American National Cancer Institute (NCI).
According to the entry, TXL (or THL in Taiwanese pronounciation), has potential antioxidant, immunomodulating and anti-neoplastic (anti-cancer) activities. The immunomodulating function includes modulating the activity of Natural Killer (NK) cells and Cytotoxic T-Lymphocytes (CTLs).
In summary, here’s a couple of TXL’s functions:
1. Helps to Induce Apoptosis (Programmed Cell Death) of Leukemia Cells
2. Helps to Trigger G2/M Cell Cycle Arrest of Leukemia Cells
3. Have Synergistic Effect with Medical Treatment and Helps to Minimize Medical Treatment’s Side Effects. Helps to Improve Patients’ Quality of Life
4. Helps to Inhibit Metastasis and Angiogenesis of Cancer Cells
5. Helps to Modulate Immune System (Natural Killer Cells and Cytotoxic T-Lymphocytes)
1. TXL Helps to Augment Anticancer Immunity
In 2017, the Integrative Cancer Therapies Journal published a research article by Pei-Ming Yang’s team from Taipei Medical University about TXL’s ability to help increasing mice anti-cancer immunity.
Results of the Research: TXL (THL in Taiwanese spelling) suppressed the growth of CT-26-high tumor in mice previously vaccinated with low-tumorigenic CT-26-low cells or γ-irradiated CT-26-high cells. TXL increased the populations of NK cells and CD4+ T lymphocytes in the spleen and enhanced the tumor-killing activities of NK cells and CTL in mice vaccinated with γ-irradiated CT-26-high cells. TXL increased the production of IFN-γ, IL-2, and TNF-α in mice vaccinated with γ-irradiated CT-26-high cells.
Conclusion of the Research: TXL can enhance the antitumor immune responses in mice vaccinated with killed tumor cells. These results suggest that TXL may be used as a complementary medicine for cancer patients previously treated with killed tumor cell vaccines, radiotherapy, or chemotherapy.
Figure 1B: Effect of TXL on the growth of mouse colon carcinoma cell lines
Figure 1C: Effect of TXL on body weight in mice vaccinated with γ-irradiated mouse colon carcinoma cell lines
As shown in Figure 1B, the tumor growth/volume was slower in TXL’s treated mice than in water-treated mice. At day 21 after the tumor implantation, the average tumor volume of the TXL’s treated mice was 0.55 ± 0.1 cm³, while the water treated mice had the average tumor volume of 1.29 ± 0.1 cm³. In addition, TXL didn’t cause weight loss (Figure 1C) or other side effects, such as hair loss and lethargy, during the experimental period.
These results demonstrate that TXL possess potent tumor-supressing activities
2. TXL Helps to Increases the Activities of Natural Killer (NK) Cells & Cytotoxic T-Lymphocytes in Colorectal Cancer Cell Lines
Figure 2A & B: Populations of Natural Killer (NK) Cells and T Lymphocytes in mice vaccinated with colon cancer cell lines
Figure 2C & D: Cytotoxicity of NK Cells and CTLS
NK Cells and CTLs represent 2 major populations of Cytotoxic Lymphocytes and play a vital role in anti-tumor defense. As shown in figure 2A & B, the populations of NK cells and CD4+ T Lymphocytes were higher in TXL treated mice than in water treated mice. Figures 2C & D demonstrates that the tumor-killing activities of NK cells and CTLS of the TXL treated mice were higher than those in of the water-treated mice.
Together, these results indicate that TXL may help to inhibit tumor growth through the enhancement of the activities of Natural Killer cells and Cytotoxic T-Lymphocytes
3. TXL Helps to Induce Apoptosis (Programmed Cell Death) in Colon Cancer Cell and Inhibit Tumor Growth
In 2010, the Chinese Medicine Journal published the research conducted by Qing Liu’s research team from University of Hong Kong about TXL’s ability to stimulate apoptosis in colon cancer cells.
Result
TXL inhibited colon cancer cells xenografted model and showed a strong and dose-dependent inhibitory effect on the proliferation of colon cancer cells. Mitochondrial membrane potential was reduced by TXL at the concentration of 0.5% above. For Western blot analysis, an increase in Bax expression and a decrease in Bcl-2 expression were observed in TXL-treated cells. TXL treatment increased the protein level of cleaved casepase-3 and caspase-9, and the release of cytochrome c in cytoplasm was up-regulated as well.
Conclusion
TXL significantly inhibits cell proliferation in the colon cancer cells and colon cancer cells xenografted model via the mitochondrial cell death pathway.

Good bye, Nightmare!!
By William Ackerman, Florida – USA
The most interesting thing is that I took chemotherapy and TXL at the same time and four months later, I went back to the hospital for examination before my surgery and my doctor was surprised to find that my big tumor was gone…
Until December of 2006, I have had seven surgeries. After those surgeries, I started chemotherapy for another six months, and of course, I kept drinking “TXL.” Until the last examination of the treatment, I was so happy that the activeness of cancer cells showed negative. Now, it has been four years since the major surgery was done and there is no sign of relapse; I can still work and live as normal. Just in case, one of my important routine businesses is to drink a bottle of “TXL” every day.
Every Single Day My Husband and I Live Healthy
By Masuda Achiyo from Japan
I rejoiced very much for today’s happiness. I made the right decision when I was ill with the assistance of good doctors. Now, I live a busy life.
Wish I could experience the same result like my husband
My colorectal cancer was discovered at my annual health examination. That was in June of 2001 and the test result of my defecation was positive, so I was confirmed to have colorectal cancer at last. Ten years ago, I had thyroid cancer, but I who paid more attention to my own health still couldn’t escape this inexorable fate.
The doctor suggested me to remove it, so I had a surgical removal immediately. But the surgery failed because the stitch was bad and caused the festering wound. I had to be hospitalized and suffered a lot of pain.
was healthy and there was no spread or recurrence.
In order to prevent Cancer from recurring, I kept drinking TXL
Like most patients do, I went to the hospital for regular examinations such as blood test, ultrasonic wave test, gastroscope and proctoscope etc. Maybe I was lucky; all the test results were positive and normal. Maybe it was my old age; I couldn’t help thinking about the old days. Nine years ago, when my husband was about to retire, we thought we could enjoy our retire life; but my husband was diagnosed to have advance stomach cancer, my daughters and I were very shocked.
At first, he disliked drinking TXL, but gradually he felt its effect and power, he turned to ask for drinking it. His change was huge. He could eat normally, drink a little bit and live quite normally. I thought TXL did deserve some credits for us to live such a healthy life.
Besides flowers and karaoke, I am interested in so many things and I don’t have free time. I plan to travel eighty-eight famous places in Shikoku with my friends. Because of this plan, we have to work on our feet; we take a walk in the neighborhood even in the evening and we also practice going up and down stairs in different places. I have so many plans waiting for me to be achieved one by one.
Care, Love & Overcome Cancer
By Kanjana Jantharangsri from Thailand
Even a cancer patient is lucky enough to have someone care and encourage him or her to fight against cancer; still, I don’t think it’s enough. The most important role is the patient himself or herself; to take better care and pay more attention to yourself and the most important part is to take care of your heart.
“Cancer, a foul disease, whoever suffers from it would feel terrible!
Why me? Am I going to die soon?” – That was the voice in my head.
Every patient needs people around him or her to encourage, care and pay attention. Some patients lost their longing for life as soon as they heard they got cancer. Their will for living and surviving would be naturally affected if they lacked of attention and care from their relatives.
Do you want to know what kind of loving care, attention and concern I got from people around me? Please keep reading!
I am single, fifty-eight years old and working as a government employee in Prachinburi now. The doctor discovered that I had colorectal cancer when I took an examination on Feb. 7th, 2008; I had a surgical removal of cancer tumor in a famous private hospital in Bangkok on Feb. 11th, 2008.
When I came to National cancer center for treatment, the doctor re-diagnosed my illness as 2nd stage of colorectal cancer. I took chemotherapy and made appointments with the doctor once three weeks for six times. During the period of my chemotherapy, my senior official who cared for me came to visit me and sent me supplementary enzyme made in Taiwan.
The treatment of taking medicine ended in July, 2008. I thought I was healed, so I was very happy; but gosh, it didn’t last long. One year after my surgery, the doctor examined me with colonoscopy and discovered that a new tumor grew at the place where I had my surgery.
I had to empty my abdomen every time I had the examination so that the doctor could put in the colonoscopy from my anus to check the tumor; but it was very painful. On June 2nd, 2009, I had to take another surgery. During the surgery, my lower abdomen was so hurt; while I was waiting for the surgery and taking chemotherapy, my brothers and sisters were all worried about me.
The large tumor surgically removed from my large intestine, the preparation before the surgery, and the recovery after the surgery caused greater pain than I used to have. The second colorectal cancer I had was diagnosed as 3rd stage, so I had to take vein chemotherapy twelve times; and every time I had to lie down 48 hours for intravenous injection.
After I understood the effect of “TXL”, I bought it, took it, and I have been taking it until now. I believed that with the help of TXL, the side effect of the second chemotherapy was not obvious. I have taken seven chemotherapies and I am counting down when the twelfth chemotherapy will come; still, I am worried if cancer will
come back the third time after twelve treatments are done.
drink more water and take a rest!” I want to thank her for her care and encouragement.
